Check out Cheveley #FocusFriday

Updated: Oct 27, 2023

Cheveley is just 4 miles from Newmarket and if you say "Cheveley" in equestrian circles then most people will think of nearby Cheveley Park Stud - the breeding and ownership operation of top class horses across both flat and national hunt racing. Indeed, Cheveley is home to other horse breeding operations. Let's have a quick look at what else the village has to offer.

(You can find a map of the area at the bottom of this page. along with links to local amenities such as schools and medical centres.)

This really is a lovely, picturesque village with a number of attractive properties and plenty of thatched roofs add to the atmosphere. The central part of the village is a conservation area and some of the homes date back to the 1600s. Dating back to 1260, the St Mary and the Holy Host of Heaven church shows off some spectacular stained glass windows and has many features that speak of its rich history.

The village has a primary school, a post office and convenience store, a parish hall, and a recreation ground with play area and sports facilities. It also has a bus route to Newmarket.

The Red Lion is a stylishly refurbished traditional pub and restaurant in the village that offers a varied and enticing menu alongside local ales and an extensive wine list. I've been told that sampling heir home made desserts is highly recommended!

Cheveley Park has a long history dating back to previous royal owners such as King Athelstan, King Canute, Edward the Confessor, William the Conqueror, Edward I and Edward II. It has been breeding successful horses since the 19th century and has produced Grand National winning Party Politics as well as the prolific Envoi Allen and Pivotal. Their famous colours can be seen at all the major horse racing festivals.
