Welcome to Witchford #FocusFriday

Updated: Oct 27, 2023

A small village of approximately 2,500 residents, Witchford sits just a couple of miles west of Ely. Alongside local shops and amenities, the village is 8miles from Littleport (with a train station) as well as a short drive from the station at Ely. The village also has a primary school and a college.

St Andrew's Church is Grade II listed and dates back to the 13th century. It has a unique and striking look with the tower barely taller than the rest of the building. A more unusual cemetery than the one at the church was found when RAF Witchford was closed down. The bulldozers moved in and uncovered bones believed to be from an Anglo-Saxon pagan burial site. The latest survey work however, suggests that this wasn't an Anglo-Saxon cemetery and therefore not the lost settlement of Cratendune.

The Witchford Village Hall is host to a variety of activities and clubs, ranging from scouts to exercise classes, and the playing fields are host to some of the local teams as well as some of the larger events that take place. Maybe joining in some of the classes might be a good way to prepare for the annual Grunty Fen Half Marathon that takes place around the village?

After briefly closing down, the local pub The Village Inn is now under new management and alongside a classic menu of fresh food, and a varied selection of beer on tap; also provides live entertainment during the week.

If you're considering moving house and would like some assistance, don't hesitate to get in touch for a chat.
